Call for papers

We are pleased to announce that the Twenty-third Workshop on Cantonese (WOC-23) will be held on Saturday (GMT 01:00 – 10:00; HKT 09:00 – 18:00), June 24, 2023, at the Hong Kong Baptist University. The workshop is jointly organized by the Linguistic Society of Hong Kong, the Department of English Language and Literature of the Hong Kong Baptist University, and the Master of Arts in Language Studies programme at the Hong Kong Baptist University.

The theme of WOC-23 is “Multiple facets of Cantonese Conversation 粵語口語多角度分析”. Topics may relate to syntax, semantics, pragmatics, phonology, sociolinguistics, historical linguistics, etc., with a focus on using Cantonese conversations as the data. Abstracts are invited for 20-minute talks with 10 minutes for discussion. You can give your presentation in Cantonese, English or Mandarin. Abstracts may be written in Chinese or English and should be limited to one A4 page with the name(s) of author(s), affiliation and e-mail address(es). Abstracts in DOC format should be sent to: wowchor@hkbu.edu.hk.
